About Falcon’s Faith

Faith might be a hard thing for some people to define.  It sounds ethereal.  Misty and foggy, like a dream.  Really though, faith boils down to trust, and trust – while seemingly fragile – can be a solid thing.  People often stake their lives on their trust in things.  You trust that your train won’t derail and kill you on your way to work in the morning.  You trust that the sun will rise tomorrow.  You trust that the chicken you cooked for dinner won’t poison you.

For a Christian, trust is about faith.  Hebrews 11:1 defines faith thus: Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  No, that doesn’t mean God is some kind of cosmic genie waiting to grant our every wish simply because we wish it.  The faith being talked about in that passage is the faith the early fathers had in the Messiah to come, their faith that God would keep His promises to them.  It reassures us that God will keep His promises to us in the same way.

Christians often get confused about exactly what parts of the Bible we can cling to in terms of God’s promises.  For the record, Jeremiah 29:11 is not for Christians.  (More on that later)  Romans 8:28 is, but you must read the whole verse.  We know all things work together for the good of those who love God, those who are called according to His purpose.  You can’t leave off that last part.  It’s pretty important.

My point is this – this blog is about my journey in faith, faith in Jesus Christ, and in understanding His word.  I welcome you to join me.
